Description

The Gâtine Business Club was founded in 1977 , based on an idea from several years previously by a those running the Chainette workshops and then taken up by several business leaders. One of these, who became its first president, was Michel HERVE, businessman and mayor of Parthenay. After discussions, the club was formally launched as an association in 1978. It's aim, then and now, is to give business people the chance to get to know each other, to gain ideas and share knowledge, to work together on mutually beneficial projects, provoke new thinking and to learn more about economics at all levels. This networking encourages local initiatives and joint actions to promote and develop businesses in the Gâtine.

The first meeting was in La Peyratte in 1978, attended by about 30 business people and the speakers were 4 local bank managers. Current membership is around the two hundred mark and represents a large proportion of the local economic scene, not only businesses but consultancies, associations, local government reps, banks etc.

There are ten or so meetings per year, each with a different focus, including visits to each others' world of work, breakfast meetings, evening get-togethers etc.
