AU SON DU JARDIN POITEVINTwo spacious rooms in an old priory
In the traditional untouched South West of the Gatine, Catherine offers you two light and airy rooms in her long house which faces South and was once part of a 14th Century priory. It was restored in 2014. 2015 saw Catherine setting out the garden, to include a Mandala vegetable garden. The generously sized rooms are decorated with natural materials, limewash, stucco and clay in soft tones. First class bedding is provided to make you comfortable, and when you reserve you can decide whether you want the beds to be pushed together or remain single. A small child’s bed can be added, but you need to ask and there is no extra charge for under 2 year olds. You are free to use the sitting/dining room as well as your private space, which gives you plenty of choice about where to sit for different activities. Catherine promises to give you lovely tasty breakfasts and generous portions which can be served either in the dining room or on the terrace, looking over the garden. By booking the day before, you can enjoy an evening meal, which Catherine will cook from the best produce of the area. She can also prepare a picnic basket for you if you like. Don’t forget to mention if you are on a special diet, or have any food allergies – these will be accommodated. The accommodation is ideally placed for discovering the beauty and the many attractions of the local area, but it is also very quiet and you can spend time recharging your batteries in this natural setting, and even helping in the garden, if you would like. In the evening, after 11pm, when the street lights have gone out, you can lean back and appreciate the starry sky from the garden. In 2016, Catherine continued designing the garden, inspired by the techniques of permaculture (sustainable and self sufficient garden design) and a garden divided into squares is in the process of being made. Catherine offers courses in permaculture and landscape gardening.
What to do and where to go? Which festival to choose?
It is only 20 minutes from the Marais Poitevin, Mervant, Vouvant, Secondigny and Pescalis for fishing and walking, an hour from La Rochelle and Puy de Fou, an hour and a quarter from ocean beaches and the Ile de Ré. You are surrounded by local history with roman churches and abbeys, fortresses, and prehistoric sites (eg the Museum of Prehistory at Bougon, with its amazing Neolithic buildings). You can visit several remarkable gardens, animal parks and the aquarium at La Rochelle. To come to Deux-Sèvres and the Vendée guarantees you a magnificent stay, equally interesting for children and adults. I am waiting for you, see you soon.
